What is The Ragger Program

The history of The Ragger program dates back to 1914 in Oakland, California. What is now known as the Long Beach YMCA. The Ragger program is an opportunity for an individual to set goals for themselves that would help them to develop a stronger mind, body, and spirit. The Ragger Program has been historically done at YMCA residential camps with campers that are 12 year and up as well as for staff. Each rag color represents a challenge that an individual has accepted as a part of the program to grow and improve oneself. The rag only has meaning to the beholder who takes on the challenge. No matter the age at which you start everyone begins with a Blue Rag challenge: Loyalty to God, country, one's best self and the Raggers' Creed.

I Would Be True wants to continue a great tradition with the Ragger Program. We want to continue to see people flourish and grow whether at camp or once they are no longer a part of a camp. We have heard stories and seen people continue with Ragger challenges years after their camp experience. For many the Ragger program is not something that they do and forget, but is a lifetime of development. We are here to help keep your memories and challenges refreshed and also continue on to the next!  The Ragger program can continue beyond its borders of a YMCA residential camp setting. We hope to help those that want to further their rag challenges and to see many advance to their white rag challenge of dedicating their life to Christian service.
